A stool analysis is a series of tests done on a stool (faeces) sample to help diagnose certain conditions affecting the digestive tract, and consequently, the whole body. These conditions can include infection (such as from parasites, viruses, or bacteria), poor nutrient absorption, or cancer.
Nowadays, with the availability of information on the internet, we can easily convince ourselves that we have some disease or another based on our symptoms, but this can be confusing and misleading. The advantage of testing your stool is that you get accurate feedback on what’s happening within your gut environment.
There are a range of different tests available, the suitability of which will be determined by your presenting symptoms and this may well be something that you discuss with Katherine first. Sometimes more than one test is needed, but these would be performed from the same stool sample, so you don’t need to send off multiple samples. Some multiple tests are discounted.
The tests available are:
Once it is agreed which tests are necessary, a test kit will be sent to your home. It’s quite straightforward and full instructions are provided, but do follow them accurately. You send the sample off to the laboratory for analysis and the results will be sent to the clinic. Katherine will then be in touch with you to discuss the outcome and how best to proceed.
Often some dietary changes and supplementation will be necessary. You may need to purchase probiotics, enzymes and other products, which will be an additional cost. It might also be prudent to perform another test further down the line so keep this in mind also. However, invariably the improvement to your health is obvious so retesting would not be necessary.
The costs of the tests are shown under each test heading, unless multiple tests are needed, in which case they are priced on application. There is an additional charge of £5 p&p for each.
